The word sekaten itself is derived from syahadatain or shahada, the first requirement for converting into Islamic faith. The principal residence of the sultan is the kraton (palace), sometimes called the Yogyakarta Kraton but otherwise known in formal terms Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat.
